Colorado

As you already know, this location is famed for the huge bucks that have been shot here over the past 15 years by our clients.  GHR offer some of the very best deer hunting anywhere in the country! A couple of brief 2008 highlights, clients of AMR shot 6 mule deer over 190”, three of them over 200”.  Three of the 190” plus bucks were shot with a bow, including two of the bucks that gross scored OVER 200”, they were 201” & 203” B&C.  Another handful of muleys scored over 180”, of which a couple of them were also shot with a bow.  Seven whitetails over 160” were taken this year, as well as two bucks that grossed over 170”.  Bow hunters also shot several of these bucks, showing that spot & stalk whitetails with a bow, as we have been proving for years, is very possible! The muzzleloader hunt should not be over looked as well, especially when most tags can be drawn with 0-1 preference point! RMA currently leases over 200,000 acres in roughly 10 different game management areas, strictly controlled for big bucks.  ATTENTION WHITETAIL HUNTERS – IN SEVERAL OF THE PLAINS UNITS IN WHICH RMA OPERATES, COLORADO NOW OFFERS WHITETAIL ONLY RIFLE PERMITS – these permits are extremely easy to draw, most tags can be drawn with no points!

HUNTING OPTIONS

Archery:

Season date is October 1 – December 31.  Hunts are conducted anytime throughout the season, but mainly in November & December, with the exception of a couple of areas! Hunts are all 6 day hunts, most tags are valid for either specie, but only one deer.  Hunts are almost exclusively spot & stalk, with a few tree stand exceptions! THESE TAGS ARE GENERALLY DRAWN WITH NO PREFERENCE POINTS, AND RMA’S LANDOWNERS CAN PROVIDE A LANDOWNER VOUCHER IF NECESSARY!!

Muzzleloader:

Season date is October 10-18.  Hunts are all spot & Stalk, usually 6 days of hunting, and tag is also valid for either specie.  Tags are generally drawn with 0-2 points, but in the SPECIALIZED TROPHY UNIT, THEY CAN BE DRAWN WITH NO POINTS! This hunt is a tremendous opportunity for a big buck, in a season that is under-utilized by hunters.

Rifle:

Colorado has two separate rifle seasons on the plains, but RMA separates them into the following dates.  The hunts will be Oct. 24 – 28 or Oct 30 – Nov 3.  This hunt is usually easier to draw, requiring 1-4 points depending on the unit!   December rifle hunts are as follows, Dec 1-5 or 8-12.  These hunts will take 1-4 points to draw, depending on the unit.  Please note, both seasons offer a whitetail only tag in several units.  RMA offers these hunts on several on their ranches with high whitetail populations, and the tags can usually be drawn with no points!!!

EASTERN COLORADO ANTELOPE:

The plains of Colorado are not noted for huge bucks, but the concentrations are good, and hunter success has been 100% over the past 15 years! Generally speaking bucks in the 70-75” range are the norm, with the possible high 70’s goat taken, on occasion! Hunts take place on the same private ranches as the deer, and will be available throughout the fall for both archery and rifle hunters.  This is a great opportunity for first-timers, father/son, or group hunts where everybody is looking to have fun, and be successful! !
