South Africa is a very large modern country that is broken up into different regions and provinces. South Africa is a great place for first time hunters as well as experienced hunters looking for specific trophies that can only be taken in South Africa. The majority of the hunting is done on large private game ranches which have exterior game fencing, but no interior fencing. Although the hunting is done on ranches, the hunt is still very challenging due to the size of the ranches. We work with the oldest outfitter in South Africa. Since 1970 they have provided unparalleled hunting experiences with exceptional accommodations. Depending on the area, accommodations range from intimate hunting cabins to 5 star permanent lodges. Hunts are run out of four different concessions: Natal Midlands, Eastern Cape, Zululand, and Limpopo. These are prime areas for which we can tailor make a hunt based on the species desired by the hunter, rather than a set list of species.
Natal Midlands
The Natal Midlands is an excellent area to find Cape Bushbuck, Common and Mountain Reedbuck, as well as plentiful classic plains game species such as greater Kudu, zebra, eland, blesbok, hartebeest, and wildebeest. The landscape is one hour from Durban and consists of grassy slopes and low lying mountains, not unlike the English countryside.
Eastern Cape
In the Eastern Cape, hunters will set out from their comfortable camp (either a colonial homestead or cozy log cabin) in search for a great variety of species, including: blue duiker, cape grysbok, black wildebeest, mountain reedbuck, vaal reedbuck, klipspringer, three types of blesbok, and 4 variations of springbok. The Bontebok is unique to the Cape, and requires a special permit.
Zululand
The historic area of Zululand is known for producing exceptional Nyala, Red Duiker and Suni. Within Zululand, the Mkhuze Game Reserve is also home to the free ranging White Rhino and ample plains game. Three hours north of Durban, and 7 hours from Johannesburg, Zululand was previously the hunting grounds of past Zulu kings.
Limpopo
Within the mountainous terrain and scattered plains of the Limpopo area, hunters can expect to find common plains game species, as well as big Kudu, Southern Impala, warthog, klipspringer, waterbuck, Roan and Sable. It is also an excellent area for an exciting buffalo hunt!
